The INSTITUTE of STATISTICS, BIOSTATISTICS and ACTUARIAL SCIENCES (ISBA) at the UCLouvain (Louvain-la-Neuve), Belgium is seeking to fill two permanent full-time professorships (lecturer/assistant professor or associate professor) in statistics for the start of the academic year 2025/26.
We are looking for two new colleagues, ideally (but not exclusively so) to complete the Institute’s expertise in
• high-dimensional spatial-temporal statistics, or
• statistical and Bayesian learning
including deploying these methods in one or more fields of application, ideally with a strong societal impact.
For both positions we expect the new colleagues to publish high-level research articles in international peer-reviewed journals on quantitative statistics/data science/machine learning, and/or specific to their application domain. A proven ability to develop collaborations with experts from various application fields will be a strong asset.
Our new colleagues are expected to teach graduate-level courses (in English or French) in the Master of Statistics and the Master of Data Science as well as some undergraduate-level courses (in French, after some period of getting familiar with the language if necessary). Junior faculty will enjoy reduced teaching loads during the first years.
The positions can directly lead to tenure (after a probation period, depending on the applicant’s prior experience in research and teaching) – and further promotion is possible within our university system.
Starting date: September 2025
Deadline for application: November 12, 2024, at noon (strict !).
When relevant, we strongly encourage interested candidates to apply for both positions to facilitate flexibility in the simultaneous recruiting process.
