PhD student position(s) in mathematics for artificial intelligence

A PhD position is available at the department Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University in Gothenburg to work on the project “Stochastic continuous-depth neural networks”.  This project is at the intersection of statistics, machine learning and stochastic analysis.

You will work on stochastic continuous-depth neural networks, which can be thought of as deep neural networks composed of infinitely many stochastic layers, where every single layer only brings about a gradual change to the output of the preceding layers.

The candidate will analyse such stochastic continuous-depth neural networks using tools from stochastic calculus and Bayesian statistics to advance the understanding of deep neural networks and investigate novel training algorithms for stochastic deep neural networks.

You can find more details on the project and the collaborators on this website.

The dynamic and international city of Gothenburg is the second-largest city in Sweden. At the department Mathematical Sciences, you will have opportunities for many inspiring conversations, a lot of autonomous work and become part of an international research collaboration including travels.

This PhD student position is fully funded, for 4 to 5 years. It is part of a joint call for 6 PhD positions for projects on the mathematical aspects of artificial intelligence. As an applicant, you will be considered for all of the positions, but it is important that you mention in the application your specific research interests and indicate which of the otherwise separate projects you are most interested in.

Apply by 6 March 2020 following the instructions provided here.
