Then a PhD position at the department of Methodology and Statistics of Utrecht University might be just the right job for you. You will work on the project “Bayesian sample size calculations for trials with multilevel data”, which is funded by the Dutch Research Council (Open Competition scheme).

The specific focus of this project is on trials with multilevel data. Such data occur when subjects are nested within groups, or when repeated measures over time are nested within subjects. The multilevel (mixed) model is an appropriate model for the analysis of such data and a priori sample size calculations for trials with such data based on statistical power analysis are widely available. A priori sample size calculations for Bayesian informative hypothesis testing in trials with multilevel data are still lacking.

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague (m/f/x) who meets the requirements below:

• You have (completed or almost completed) a Master’s degree in the field of Methodology and Statistics.
• Preferably you are familiar with R, conducting a simulation study, multilevel (mixed) models and Bayesian informative hypothesis testing.
• You have well-developed analytical skills.
• You are a motivated and collaborative team member, communicative and open for collaboration across scientific fields. You are able to work independently and have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• You are willing to learn Dutch; we believe that understanding and speaking Dutch makes it easier to connect with colleagues. We offer free Dutch language courses.
