BMS-ANed PhD Day 2025

The BMS-ANed PhD Day is scheduled for the 20th of November 2025, at the RadboudUMC in Nijmegen!

For whom
This event targets PhD candidates and junior researchers in biostatistics in the Netherlands. The theme of this year is the skills that you (want to) learn during your doctoral studies that will also be useful in your further career as a biostatistician. We aim to focus on topics that are not typically covered in other courses and that are especially useful in an interdisciplinary environment, like verbal and written communication, and skills surrounding coding and AI tools.

Location
The event will take place at the RadboudUMC,in the Experience center (M260), room in the Waalbrug room (number –1.005, route 7). Adress: Geert Grooteplein 15, Nijmegen.

The Experience Center is accessible by public transport. From Nijmegen central station, take the bus to busstop Nijmegen Radboud UMC (bus 10, bus 83 to Venlo or bus 6 to Station Dukenburg) (left map). From Nijmegen Heyendaal the location is a 10 minute walk (right map). Please see your preferred planning app for alternative routes.

10:45 – 11:00 Opening of the day

11:00 – 11:45 Session 1: Good coding skills: making your work more efficient, reproducible and communicable, with Richard Bartels (Assistant Professor at University Medical Center Utrecht, and senior data scientist Vantage AI)

11:45 – 12:30 Session 2: Communication with non-statisticians, with Rogier Donders (Assistant Professor at the Radboudumc Biostatistics section, and former methodology assessor at the Central Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects (CCMO))

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch

13:30 – 14:15 Session 3: How to get your paper accepted – a guide, with Dimitris Rizopoulos (Professor and Chair of the department Biostatistics at Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, and co-editor of the Biostatistics journal)

14:15 – 15:00 Session 4: AI-Aided screening for systematic reviews: saving time and sanity, with Lauke Stoel (Project manager at DISC-AI Lab at Utrecht University) and Sixu Cai (PhD candidate at the DISC-AI Lab at Utrecht University)

15:00 – 15:30 Coffee break

15:30 – 16:15 Session 5: Interactive panel discussion with all speakers

16:15 – 16:30 Closing remarks
